How long is the contract for?
The contract runs from the date that cleared funds are received and is for a MINIMUM of 12 months if otherwise stated. After that point, we require one month's notice to cancel. The contract ends when the syndicate sells the horse or agrees to the retirement of the horse which can happen at any point after the contract start date.
Can I leave the Syndicate \ Shareholding at anytime?
You can choose to release your share and leave the syndicate when the 12 or 24 months is up. However the upfront payment will be relinquished.
What does the upfront payment cover?
The upfront payment includes the purchase price of the horse, vetting at the sales,  sales house commission (5 - 7.5% of the auction price), agents commission (typically 2.5 - 5%), transportation to your horses’ trainer, the breaking in of the horse and pre-training, plus training fee’s up to the month that the monthly payment begins. Upfront payments do not include ‘Sales Race’ or any entries prior to start of the monthly payments. We will not ask for an additional purchase price payment for any of the horses’ additional years, you just continue with the monthly payments if you continue your contract.
Do I need to pay any additional fees after my upfront purchase fee?
This is all dependent on promotions \ specials that we will have on offer. T and C´s may apply!
What do the monthly payments cover?
The monthly payment is guaranteed to cover all training expenses: Veterinary treatment, blacksmiths, breaking in, training, transport to and from the racecourse, food and living costs & all associated administration, the jockey’s riding fee and your badge/s (the number depending on the % of the horse that is owned-see below) for the race meeting are all included. Your monthly fee will remain unaffected should other members of the syndicate choose to leave.
Will the monthly payments remain the same?
There is a 5% annual uplift in monthly training fees for both full ownership shareholders and lease shareholders.
How are horses selected?
All horses listed undergo a rigorous diligence process, that includes a veterinarian check, conformation assessment, and value assessment that includes pedigree analysis and other factors that determine the market value of a horse.
Only horses that meet the above criteria, are then purchased by Glistian Racing. However rigorous our diligence process is, no guarantees can be made in terms of how successful they will be on the race track.
Our goal is to use the best practices, partner with credible horsemen, and be rigorous with our diligence/assessments, but there will always be an element of risk.
How often will I get updates on my horses?
There will be weekly pictures and videos shared with each Racing Club member and/or Individual Syndicate shareholder.
Furthermore, there will also be progress reports provided by the trainer that may include information on the horses wellbeing, improvements, injuries, race plans, tactics to name a few points to report on.
Can I visit my horses?
Yes and we encourage each of our members and/or shareholders to do so. Understanding that these horses will be racing in South Africa, we will ensure that the trainers of the respective horses host you accordingly.
Where will the horses be based?
These horses will be based in South Africa.
Do I get a say in how the horse is managed?
As a Individual or  Syndicate Shareholder, you do not have any say in how the horse is managed. Due to the nature of the way the Racing club is structured, the intent is for the Racing Manager to make decisions regarding the horse.
Do I have to become a registered owner?
No.  You will be racing under the auspices of the Glistian Racing, therefore it will not be necessary to do so.
What happens if a horse is sold?
If your horse is sold, rather than retired, you will receive your percentage of the selling price. For example, if you owned a 5% share of the horse you would receive 5% of the selling price although this is dependent on how and where the horse is sold, as applicable commissions and fees will be due, such as sales house or sale agent, trainer, MPR etc.
Note that if your horse is withdrawn from a sale, there will be a withdrawal fee payable.
If any of the horses retire, what happens with them?
We are committed to ensuring every horses wellbeing after their racing careers have come to an end.  As a result, we team up with various reputable organizations that provide these beautiful animals with a good home.
